Sustainability at Belfort Furniture

Belfort Furniture Responsible Wood Sourcing Policy

Belfort Furniture is proud to offer quality furniture that is built to last. Wood has been an essential element of high-quality furniture for centuries. Belfort wants to ensure that the world’s forests improve in ecological quality as they continue to produce furniture-grade wood for millennia to come.

Belfort Furniture is committed to the responsible use of forest resources, especially the wood used in the furniture that we sell.

Belfort Furniture will work with our suppliers on an ongoing basis to eliminate wood from unacceptable sources and to progressively increase the amount of responsible wood procured over time.

Belfort will continue to offer and promote furniture crafted by local and regional manufacturers who source their hardwood from the Appalachian region, which is within a day’s drive of our stores. We have a preference for wood sourced from responsibly managed North American forests from both domestic and international manufacturers.

Belfort will continue to expand our offering of furniture made from reclaimed wood. While the variable character of reclaimed wood is not appropriate for every furniture application, the reuse of wood can extend the useful life of a resource that has already been harvested and divert a material that may otherwise enter the waste stream.

Belfort Furniture recognizes the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) as an important tool to promote responsible forest management. We have a preference for sourcing FSC-certified wood furniture when it meets our requirements, and encourage furniture manufacturers to create products using certified wood.

    Belfort Furniture is firmly committed to avoiding wood from unacceptable sources, including:
  • - Illegally harvested or traded timber;
  • - Timber harvested in violation of human rights;
  • - Timber harvested from areas in which high conservation values are threatened by poor forest management;
  • - Timber harvested from areas being converted from forests with high conservation value to non-forest use.

Through this policy, Belfort Furniture seeks to encourage furniture manufacturers and suppliers to source wood responsibly and to do our part to protect the world’s forests.

For Every Delivery, We Plant a Tree

Since the inception of our "Be Green" partnership with the Virginia Department of Forestry, over 300,000 tree seedlings have been donated to the state to support reforestation projects. Together our efforts help restore our forests, beautify our landscape and help offset carbon dioxide emissions.

Did you know? We recycle an average of over 3.75 tons of cardboard monthly!
